Candidate To-Do List for a "Revolution by Vote"
In order to be a write-in candidate for President, but really in order to offer those who protest by abstaining from voting the opportunity to protest actively by voting for election reform, I would have to meet requirements of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and the election rules of each of the fifty states.
FEC: Candidate can spend money for "testing the waters." But, once he/she states she is a candidate, or does things only a candidate would do, all expenditures count toward the required expenditure of $5,000 for the election campaign. The candidate must have a primary campaign committee, and must comply with the campaign financing rules of the FEC, including filing of activity and tax reports.
To be a write-in candidate in New York State, I must fill out a registration form, provide documentation that I meet the Constitutional requirements (born in USA, age requirement, residency). I must also appoint at least one Presidential Elector. Better to appoint the whole number of Electors allotted to NY: 29. The RDP needs a state committee and county committee and three or four officers.
I would need to research the requirements for a write-in candidacy for each state, and then identify at least one person, preferably two or three, in each state to name my pledged Presidential Electors in each state. For example, California gets the most, 55, and several states have only 3.
I would have to decide how to spend my $5,000 minimum, on press releases, political advertisements, tee shirts? What?
